Prenatal massage & Induction Massage

Prenatal massage gently and caringly responds to a mother’s needs as her body changes during pregnancy. She either lies on her side or semi-reclines, depending on the stage of pregnancy.

Organic waxes (lavender or neutral) are used to compliment prenatal massages.

Benefits of prenatal massage

Prenatal massage is a deeply relaxing, physically nurturing therapy. It develops sensory awareness and provides a model of loving, nurturing touch that a mother can use with her own baby.

It also enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. It is particularly effective for:

  • Muscle spasms
  • Night leg cramps
  • Fibrosis
  • Pain, especially back, neck and hip pain
  • Strain on weight-bearing joints e.g. pelvis, ankles and lower back
  • Oedema
  • Stress and depression

Is prenatal massage for you?

Massage during pregnancy is completely safe for most mothers. However, if you are having any problems or complications with your pregnancy, approval from your doctor is required before beginning prenatal massage.

During massage the mother is unclothed beneath a towel. Only the area of the body being worked on is uncovered.

Induction Reflexology to aid the birthing process

The aim of this therapy, which is focussed on the feet, is "priming for labour"

It is not about forcing anything but about dissolving blockages and creating deep relaxation

The pleasure experienced via the feet will relax you totally and the baby will also enjoy the session via the placenta

The treatment will reduce the adrenal hormone (flight or fight) and will increase oxytocin hormone necessary in labour

Here are the goals of Induction Reflexology:

  • To relax
  • To ground the woman
  • To stimulate hormones
  • To tonify the uterine muscles in a safe manner

The treatment includes effleurage with BeeBalm (Olive oil, beeswax, propolis and vitamin E), endocrine (hormonal) balancing and stimulation, as well as classical reflexology to both feet, ankles, and lower calves

I also incorporate Chinese Acupressure Points in the treatment to stimulate labour, targeting Spleen 6, Liver 3 and Hoku points on the hand

Pregnant women are advised to have a series of these treatments leading up to the due date

Benedetta practices from her relaxed and comfortable rooms in the leafy Hermitage area of Morningside, Edinburgh.
