Myofascial release

Illustration of a body covered in a network of lines with hand pulling at thighFor some complex conditions, or when an area has chronic inflammation, Benedetta may recommend a course of myofascial release (sometimes called myofascial therapy).

This gentle but highly effective body of techniques works on the connective tissue that surrounds the muscle – the myofascia. Releasing tension in the fascia gives it back elasticity, allowing much greater muscle flexibility, blood supply and healing potential.

Myofascial release is also designed to improve the body’s structural balance and alignment, whatever your shape, age, activity level or medical history.

During massage the client can be clothed or unclothed beneath a towel. If unclothed, only the area of the body being worked on is uncovered.

This video from therapist Hamid Shibata demonstrates the experience of myofascial release beautifully.
