Prenatal massage gently and caringly responds to a mother’s needs as her body changes during pregnancy. She either lies on her side or semi-reclines, depending on the stage of pregnancy.
Organic waxes (lavender or neutral) are used to compliment prenatal massages.
Benefits of prenatal massage
Prenatal massage is a deeply relaxing, physically nurturing therapy. It develops sensory awareness and provides a model of loving, nurturing touch that a mother can use with her own baby.
It also enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. It is particularly effective for:
- Muscle spasms
- Night leg cramps
- Fibrosis
- Pain, especially back, neck and hip pain
- Strain on weight-bearing joints e.g. pelvis, ankles and lower back
- Oedema
- Stress and depression
Is prenatal massage for you?
Massage during pregnancy is completely safe for most mothers. However, if you are having any problems or complications with your pregnancy, approval from your doctor is required before beginning prenatal massage.
During massage the mother is unclothed beneath a towel. Only the area of the body being worked on is uncovered.
